D20 Chair has no servers, no accounts, and no analytics. Nothing you do at your table is sent to us or to anyone else. Apart from the table you gather in the room, the app makes no network connections of its own. The only other thing it talks to is the App Store — when it opens, to see what you have bought, and again if you buy something — and that is Apple, not us.
What the app does with your table. When you gather a table, the Chair talks directly to the players’ devices over your local Wi‑Fi or Bluetooth, using Apple’s Multipeer Connectivity. That connection is encrypted, and it never leaves the room: there is no path out to the internet. Players’ sheets, notes, dice results and the shared board exist only on the devices at your table.
What is kept, and for how long. The DM’s device keeps four things: a random identifier the app generates for itself so players can rejoin the same table; the party’s names — each character’s name, class and level — and any picture the DM has chosen for a character; the maps the DM has added, until the DM deletes them; and the last evening’s table — the board and its map, where every token and marker stood, whose turn it was, the DM’s log (including the rolls the DM called for and their results) and the rolls made quietly for the party — so the next session picks up where it left off; and, while a table is open, its join code, which is cleared when the table ends. No character sheet is ever stored: a player’s sheet is sent fresh each time they join. Private notes between the DM and a player are not kept — they end with the evening. Forget Party removes the party’s names and pictures; Clear the Table removes the saved evening; deleting a map removes it. Each is removed from the device rather than kept out of sight. A map the DM lays is sent to the players’ devices for the evening and cleared from them when the table ends.
What players see about each other. A player who joins chooses to show their character to the table. The other players see that character’s portrait, name, class and level, whether they are still at the table and roughly how it is doing, and where its token stands on the map. Exact hit points, spell slots, conditions and the rest of the sheet are visible only to the DM.
Purchases. If you buy anything in the app, Apple handles the payment. We never see your payment details.
Children. The app collects nothing, so there is nothing to collect from anyone of any age.
